Meet Rex Moribe—a storyteller, filmmaker, and all-around creative force. Born and raised in the beautiful islands of Hawaii, Rex now calls Luzern, Switzerland, home, where he’s embracing the adventure of fatherhood. His journey has been anything but ordinary, blending filmmaking, IT engineering, entrepreneurship, and a lifelong love for the ocean.

Rex’s documentary Dear Thalia made a lasting impact, earning multiple humanitarian awards and featuring at prestigious film festivals. Today, it continues to touch hearts, airing on PBS Hawai‘i and reaching audiences across the islands.

But his storytelling doesn’t stop at documentaries. Rex creates stunning visuals through videos, promos, and event coverage that transport viewers into new experiences. His vlogs offer an authentic glimpse into his world, filled with passion and creativity. Whether through film, commercials, photography, or writing, Rex brings stories to life in ways that resonate deeply.

The first event of its kind in Philadelphia - a film festival celebrating and elevating the Asian American experience. Since 2008 PAAFF is proud to have presented dozens of culturally relevant films and exciting programming to broad and diverse audiences from Chinatown to Center City to University City.

Vijay Krishna Mohan was a filmmaker, musician, activist, author, and beloved member of the PAAFF staff who passed away in 2015 after a cycling accident, Starting in 2015 we began giving an award in his name to the film or filmmaker who best embodies Vijay's spirit of transformative change through media.
We felt that Dear Thalia was the most deserving film because of the positive impact it has had in the Martin family's lives, and your film's broader potential for creating dialogue on the many causes of homelessness.
